MG AA ES Chapter Quarterly Report for 3rd Quarter 2025

Report structured along the Chapter’s 3 goals:  Membership Growth, Grassroots Advocacy, and Engagement amongst members and / or the local community.

  • Membership and Membership Growth
    • ACTIVE MEMBERS:  38
      • Current Active Membership – 39 Members with whom we’ve had positive contact since our December 2023 Annual Meeting and Holiday Luncheon.
      • 4 of our 38 Active Members are Chapter Only Members.
      • 1 new Chapter Only Member this year.
    • INACTIVE MEMBERS:  67
      • We have moved these 67 members on our Chapter Roster to INACTIVE Membership Status.
      • We do not intend to pay dues to the Council on these INACTIVE members.
    • Reconciliation of our Chapter Membership Roster with the national website is ongoing.
    • Membership Chair remains vacant.

 

  • Grassroots Advocacy / Support to Maryland Council
    • At our 4 September 2025 Chapter Luncheon, Chapter President encouraged Chapter Members to support Legislative Action using the MOAA National Website.
    • 26% of our Active Members Engaged Maryland Senators in Support of the Richard Star Act via the MOAA National Website this past month.
    • Provided our Legislative Roster to Lynn Nash outlining our 38 Active members.

 

  • Engagement Amongst Members and Community
    • Chapter Quarterly Meeting held 4 September 2025 at Easton VFW Post 5118.
      • Privileged to have hosted our Guest Speaker:  Lieutenant Colonel Colin A. Ferguson, Commander of the 275th Cyberspace Operations Squadron of the Maryland Air National Guard
        • LtCol Ferguson traveled across the Bay Bridge to inform our members of the shift in mission set of the Maryland Air Guard from A-10 related Force Structure to Cyber Force Structure.
      • Also privileged to host as a guest Mr. Mike Detmer, Community Liaison for Maryland District 1 Representative Andy Harris.
      • 26 Members and Guests attended!

 

    • Chapter President represented Veterans and our MOAA Chapter at the opening Ceremony and Religious Service of Waterman’s Appreciation Day on 10 August 2025 at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
      •  Our President helped honor a Waterman, is also a Veteran, for his long-standing support to the community.

 

    • Chapter President met with the Veteran’s & Military Support Alliance (VAMSA) at their Kent Island Headquarters to better understand how they support Veterans and families across Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
      • Chapter President will speak as a Panel Member about the unique requirements of veterans at a VAMSA Fund Raiser o 13 November 2025.

 

    • We continue to reinforce our reoccurring events with our membership:
        • Quarterly Executive Board Meetings
        • Quarterly Chapter Luncheons
        • Quarterly Newsletters

 

  • Chapter Executive Council Actions

 

    • Chapter VP Clark Erlandson and Programs Director Jim Richardson led a comprehensive re-write of our Chapter By-Laws.
      • Executive Board Approved the final draft at our 7 OCT 2025 Executive Council Meeting.
      • Membership will vote to approve by-laws at our Annual Meeting and Holiday Luncheon on 4 December at the Miles River Yacht Club (MRYC).
    • Chapter Executive Council voted at our 7 October Executive Council Meeting to recognize only the 38 Active Members as Official Chapter Membership. 
      • The 67 other members on our Chapter Roster will be moved to INACTIVE Status.
      • Active Members have either attended an event or contacted Chapter Leadership at least once since December 2023.
    • Succession Planning Continues in preparation for the December Meeting.
      • We will vote for the 5 Elected Positions:  President; 2 x Vice Presidents; Treasurer & Secretary.
      • We will also appoint Membership Chair; Programs Director and Legislative Director to lead our 3 standing committees.
    • Executive Council continues to emphasize Chapter Goals for 2025
      • Increase Chapter membership by 10%
        • Recruit 9 new chapter members
      • Support Maryland CoC Legislative Plan
        • Familiarize ourselves with the plan.
        • Prepare to actively support the Maryland council.
        • Actively support the Maryland Council when called upon to do so.
        • Remain connected to our elected representatives.
      • Engage Members and Community
        • Priority is to keep Quarterly Luncheon Program alive and interesting by encouraging members to attend and by inviting interesting and engaging guest speakers.
        • Continue to support JROTC Programs
        • Look for other community support opportunities within our capacity.
      • Continue to publish Quarterly Chapter Newsletter
        • Distribute to as many members as possible via E-mail.
      • Continue Chapter Facebook Page
        • Remains our primary and most effective communication tool with our members. 
        • Andrea Shoener continues to do great work on this!
      • Update Chapter By-Laws in 2025
        • Committee led by First VP Clark Erlandson
        • Update to include Roles and Responsibilities for Executive Board Members
        • Revision complete and will be voted upon at our next Executive Board Meeting – thank you Clark!
      • Begin Succession Planning for Dec 2025 Executive Board Elections
        • Committee will be formed after our next Exec Board Meeting.

      • Annual Chapter Meeting in December.  4 December 2025; 3 December 2026
      • Quarterly Newsletter:  October 2025.  January; April; July; October 2026.
    • Events that support Engagement with the Community:
      • JROTC AWARDS CEREMONIES for the year were completed in 2d Quarter.  Will prepare for 2026 ceremonies in the new year.
        • Stephen Decatur High School Navy JROTC
        • Pocomoke High School Marine Corps JROTC
        • Snow Hill High School Marine Corps JROTC
        • Easton High School Navy JRTOC
